AKA Arrow Head or Butterfly
Arrowhead plants, also called syngonium and nepthytis, make excellent easy care indoor plants. Originally grown as a solid green plant, arrowhead plants now have leaves that are almost white, green & white, and various shades of pink or burgundy.
An arrowhead plant with dark green leaves can live in low to medium light. Arrowhead plant varieties with light green, white, pink, or burgundy leaves need medium to high light. The leaves of all arrowhead plants are “bleached” and turn an ugly gray-green color when placed in the direct sun.
Water well and then allow the top 50% of the soil dry out before watering again. An arrowhead plant droops when it needs water, but perks up quickly once watered ; when over- watered, these plants develop root rot and die. This plant does well in temperatures between 60°-75°F (18°-24°C)
Arrowhead plants prefer high humidity but still grow well in basic household humidity. Keep arrowhead plants other indoor plants, away from hot air vents, air conditioners, and fireplaces.
Arrowhead plants are susceptible to scale and Mealy Bugs, but it is spider mites that do the most damage. spider mites are Plant Pests that suck the color from the leaves and make a houseplant look pale and anemic.
Bacterial root rot due to over-watering and bacterial Leaf Spot Disease due to high humidity are the main plant diseases to watch out for.
These plants do best when slightly root-bound. Do not rush to move them to the next sized container. Be sure there are drip holes in the bottom of any pot you use.
Keep the long runners and growth tips pruned and you can use them on tables or stand them on the floor. When left untrimmed, indoor arrowhead plants make beautiful hanging plants.
